“A surreal crossroads where documentary and fiction meet”
Three iron ladies: Margot Honecker (DDR), Leila Ben Ali (Tunisia), and Imelda Marcos (the Philippines). The despotic dictator wives meet in order to do a marketing campaign promoting that their lives is now to become a Hollywood movie. An interpreter tries to mediate, but when you have had the world at your feet it is hard to give somebody else any time in the spotlight. It all turns into a showdown of might and power that gets completely out of hand.
The satirically amusing Diktatosfruar by the German playwright Theresia Walser is a bubbling pressure cooker filled with starstruck egos. A hotheaded chamber play about empires built out of blood and gold leaf, which leaves you with thoughts about how fascism doesn’t necessarily hit you like a sledgehammer but rather traps us with a delicate net made out of silk.
